How to Commission a Customized Cartoon

Here's how it's done:

Working From Photos.
I produce cartoon likenesses (not photo-realistic illustration or caricatured exagerated features). Please hover over the 'Before and After' examples above to get a rough idea of how I turn photo images into cartoon likenesses. Best photos to send are as above - slightly side-on and a good image of the person. (not taken in the sun, not wearing a cap, not too far away, if possible not face-on)

Theme to the cartoon.
I work principally from your ideas. Many customers have a basic idea of what they want but if you don't, I can help - Let's say you want to give a humourous cartoon to a good friend changing career. What can you include in the cartoon? Funny events during time in the old job, Catchphrases, Work habits, Work dodges, Include personal features - Hair style, Hobbies, 'Pride and Joy' items, Clothing.
You see, just a few ideas and there's plenty of scope for fun elements to be included into the artwork.

Commissioning the job.
Contact me by email. Here's what I need to know from you:
What Date do you require the finished work?
Do you want a Black & White or Colour cartoon?
Do you need a specific Size of cartoon?
I'll also need your Daytime Contact details and Address for the invoice and final artwork to be sent.

What happens next?.
I produce a sketch from the ideas agreed and send it to you by email, for your approval. If you need to make any changes to the sketch, no problem! When you are happy to move onto the final image, I will then produce the watercolour artwork.

General Details.
Cartoon outlines are produced in quality lightfast Black Ink and coloured with the highest quality artists watercolours.
Artwork on 160-300 gsm acid-free watercolour paper.
Size of artwork varies according to your reqirement. However, many cartoons are created to the approxamate size of 7"x5" on A4 watercolour paper.
Fee: According to amount of work required - Free quotes upon request. The fee includes any sketches leading up to the final image.

How to Commission a Newsletter Cartoon



I produce many Newsletter cartoons for PR editors and In house personnel departments. I handle the development from start to finish to include - The character/s, Storyline and punchline as well as the artwork.

Why a cartoon for your newsletter?
Cartoons in newsletters are often used to break up the monotony of block text. Also, to inject humour to lighten up 'grey' serious subject matter. The skill of producing a suitable cartoon is to tease out humour within the storyline without trivialising or degrading the subject. I can offer ideas on how this can be achieved.

What Cartoons can I produce for you?
I produce single gag cartoons as well as 3-framed strips. I can work in black & white or colour. All my cartoons are produced from sketches that you approve, before I move on to produce the final image.

Will you need to commit to a series of cartoons?
If you've never commissioned a cartoon before, I'm happy to produce a one-off cartoon or a small series to see how they bed into your newsletter. I normally work on a single-commission basis. However, I am always happy to negotiate a discounted deal on a series of cartoons, if you wish.
